Champlain Towers South Collapse

Writer's picture: Diego PalaciosDiego Palacios

An upscale condominium building collapsed at approximately 2 a.m. on June 24th in Surfside Florida, just north of Miami Beach.

At the time of publication of this post, one person has been confirmed to have died and 99 individuals are still unaccounted for in the aftermath of the Champlain Tower South collapse.

The Champlain Tower South, built in 1981, was due for a required inspection for its 40 year recertification this year. As more facts become clear about the incident, what remains unknown is what caused the building’s collapse.

Some media reports suggest experts are theorizing it could have been a result of a sinkhole or flaw in the construction of the building. Other theorize it could be a complicated combination of several factors.

Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved in this horrible tragedy.
